Nylon Disc Membrane Filter

Nylon Disc Membrane Filter

Product ID: nylon-membrane-disk-filter|Nylon Disc Membrane

Provides high-quality Nylon-6 hydrophilic microporous filter membranes with excellent thermal stability and broad chemical compatibility. It can directly filter aqueous phase, alcohols and various organic solvents without pre-wetting, making it the first choice for HPLC sample and mobile phase pretreatment. It has high protein and nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) binding capacity and is suitable for diagnostic kit manufacturing and gene probe research. Available in No substrate and on PET specifications to ensure optimal flow rate and structural strength.

Filter media / membrane
Nylon-6 hydrophilic microporous membrane with good thermal stability and broad chemical compatibility. Naturally hydrophilic, so aqueous, alcohol and many organic solvent samples need no pre-wetting.
Support & drainage layers
Supplied unsupported (no substrate) or PET-supported (on PET). The PET support gives greater structural strength, while the unsupported version favours flow rate.
Micron rating
0.1 – 5 µm
Removal efficiency
Particle retention, with high binding affinity for proteins and nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) — exactly what diagnostic kit manufacturing and gene probe work require. Where the protein in the sample must be recovered without adsorptive loss, choose a low-binding membrane instead.
Nominal outer diameter
Ø13 / Ø25 / Ø47 / Ø50 / Ø90 mm
Max operating temperature
80 °C
Wetting & flushing
Hydrophilic. No pre-wetting is required before filtering aqueous, alcohol or most organic solvent samples.
Integrity test
Being hydrophilic, the membrane can be wetted with water directly for bubble point testing.

Note: actual compatibility and service life depend on chemical concentration, temperature, flow, differential pressure, upstream contamination load and housing design. Validate under your real process conditions.

Values shown are typical for this product class; actual supply specification follows the quotation and sample datasheet.

A membrane disc has no cartridge-style diameter / rating / length triplet, so the code runs diameter × pore size × support × box quantity. Geometric disc areas per diameter are in the dimensions table on the specification page; the holder sealing ring makes the effective area smaller.

Box quantity is a packaging unit only and does not change the membrane specification; other quantities can be specified at order.

Not every combination is a stock item; uncommon combinations are made to order. Confirm with JIUNYUAN sales before ordering.

Membrane disc
Membrane discDrawing shows one representative size; the table below gives the exact diameter and length of each code.
Nominal diameterMembrane disc area
13 mm1.3 cm²
25 mm4.9 cm²
47 mm17.3 cm²
50 mm19.6 cm²

Diameters listed are the industry-standard sizes for membrane discs. The area column is the geometric disc area (πd²/4); effective filtration area is smaller and set by the bore of the holder sealing ring.

Where it fits

Nylon membrane discs are mainly an analytical preparation tool: HPLC samples and mobile phases must have particulates removed before they reach the column, otherwise the column inlet gradually blocks and back pressure climbs. They are also used in diagnostic kit manufacturing and gene probe work, where the membrane binding affinity for nucleic acids is exactly the property required.

Key characteristics

Nylon-6 is naturally hydrophilic, so aqueous, alcohol and most organic solvent samples filter without any pre-wetting — mount the disc in the holder and go. One fewer wetting step is one fewer chance of carrying wetting fluid residue into the sample, which for work that depends on a clean baseline matters more than flow rate.

Two support options are offered: unsupported, and on a PET substrate. The PET support is structurally stronger and suits higher differential pressure or frequent handling, while the unsupported version favours flow rate.

Choosing between options

Choose a disc on wettability first and temperature second:

MembraneWettabilityMax tempTypical use
Nylon (this)Hydrophilic; no pre-wetting80 °CHPLC preparation, aqueous and alcohols, diagnostic kits
PTFEHydrophobic; aqueous needs pre-wetting250 °CGas and vent sterilisation, aerosol sampling, aggressive solvents

Operation & change-out

Use directly with no pre-wetting. Being hydrophilic it also wets with water for a bubble point test, which makes integrity checking simpler than on a hydrophobic membrane. Temperature ceiling is 80 °C.

!
Nylon binds proteins and nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) strongly. That is the point in diagnostic kit and gene probe work, but where the protein in the sample is what you are trying to recover, adsorptive loss will bias the result low — choose a low-binding membrane for that case.
Does it need pre-wetting before use?
No. Nylon-6 membrane is naturally hydrophilic and filters aqueous, alcohol and many organic solvents directly without pre-wetting, making it convenient to use.
Why is it suited to HPLC sample prep?
Its broad chemical compatibility and excellent thermal stability let it handle aqueous and organic mobile phases, making it a preferred membrane for HPLC sample and mobile phase preparation.
Unsupported vs PET-supported?
It is offered unsupported (no substrate) or PET-supported (on PET); the PET support gives greater structural strength while the unsupported version aids flow rate — choose according to your needs.
