Where it fits
This single-cartridge housing is PFA throughout: the bowl, head, port nuts and vent plug are all PFA, so there is no metal anywhere on the wetted surface. It is meant for high-purity chemical and UPW lines in semiconductor, display and solar wet processing, as the housing for point-of-use (POU) or branch-line filtration.
The construction is the familiar bowl-and-nut design: the cartridge sits on the head, the bowl goes over it, and a PVDF bowl nut locks the bowl to the head. The nut sits outside the flow path and never touches the chemical, so it can be made from PVDF, which is stiffer than PFA and deforms less under tightening.
Key characteristics
- All-PFA wetted surface: bowl, head, ports and vent plug are PFA; the O-ring is PFA-encapsulated FKM (Viton), so the chemical only meets the PFA jacket while the FKM inside provides the elasticity.
- Three lengths: takes a single 5", 10" or 20" cartridge; choose the length to suit the line flow.
- Two fitting styles: 3/4" or 1" inlet and outlet in flare or insert-bead fittings, to match the tube fittings already on site.
- Vent and accessories: a 1/2" flare vent with a PFA goblet-style plug; a dedicated wrench for the bowl nut and a clip for inverted mounting are available as accessories.
Choosing between options
This site carries three housings with a fully fluoropolymer wetted surface; they differ in construction and connections:
| Item | This housing (JY-HSC3) | Fool-proof lock (JY-HSC1) | Lined Tri-Clamp (JY-HSC2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction | PFA bowl + PVDF bowl nut | Injection-moulded all-PFA, fool-proof locking ring | 316L stainless lined with PFA |
| Connections | Flare or insert-bead, 3/4" or 1" | Flaretek, Super Pillar or S300, 3/4" or 1" | Tri-Clamp |
| Cartridge lengths | 5", 10", 20" | 5", 10", 20", 30" | 5", 10", 20" |
| Why choose it | Familiar bowl-and-nut design, with an insert-bead fitting option | The operator never touches the cartridge and cannot fit it the wrong way round | You need the strength of a metal shell and sanitary connections |
See the PFA high-purity filter housing and the PFA-lined Tri-Clamp filter housing and vent breather for the other two. Cartridges are ordered separately, and the cartridge interface of this housing is confirmed at enquiry; fluoropolymer lines normally take a fluoropolymer cartridge such as the semiconductor-grade all-PTFE cartridge. For material selection, see the chemical compatibility guide.
Operation & change-out
The housing pressure rating is what the shell can hold, not the cartridge's differential-pressure limit, and both must suit the line conditions. Ask our sales team for this housing's pressure–temperature ratings and outline dimensions when enquiring; check hot chemicals in particular, because PFA softens as temperature rises and the allowable pressure falls with it.
To change the cartridge, depressurise and drain, unscrew the PVDF bowl nut with the dedicated wrench and lift off the bowl. After fitting the new cartridge, check the O-ring for scratches or chemical crystals before tightening the nut again. At start-up, open the vent to purge the air from the housing, then refit the plug. For installation and leak testing, see the all-Teflon housing installation, leak test and maintenance SOP.
