Where it fits
A hose adapter is where rigid pipe meets hose: a PFA-lined hose on one end, and a Tri-Clamp or flanged connection to equipment, a tank or pipework on the other. Hoses go wherever vibration and misalignment have to be absorbed, such as pump ports and between pieces of equipment, and on runs that have to move, such as chemical unloading. The adapters at each end decide whether the wetted path stays fluoropolymer from end to end.
This series uses a 316L stainless body lined with PFA, so the adapter shares one wetted material with the hose liner and with the PFA-lined fittings and valves downstream.
Key characteristics
- Tri-Clamp and flanged versions each in DN25, DN40 and DN50, design temperature -30 to +150 °C, FDA.
- The conductive version (DN25 flanged) has a black anti-static PFA inner layer, is designed to the BPE standard, comes with a PFA gasket and is rated vacuum to 1.0 MPa (at 20 °C).
- The PFA resin can be specified as an ultra-pure grade from a leading international producer or a cost-effective high-purity grade; material certificates are available.
The conductive version deals with static. PFA is an excellent insulator, and a low-conductivity fluid such as an organic solvent picks up charge by friction as it flows. If that charge has nowhere to go, a discharge can puncture the lining, and around flammable solvents it is an ignition source. The anti-static PFA layer carries the charge to the metal body, from where it drains away through the earth.
Choosing between options
| Item | Tri-Clamp (C) | Flanged (F) | Flanged, conductive (F-A) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sizes | DN25, DN40, DN50 | DN25, DN40, DN50 | DN25 |
| Inner layer | PFA | PFA | Anti-static PFA (black) |
| Design pressure | Confirm at enquiry | Confirm at enquiry | Vacuum to 1.0 MPa (at 20 °C) |
| Best suited to | Tri-Clamp lines and points that are opened often | Fixed flange-based lines and equipment nozzles | Low-conductivity solvents and lines where static must be drained |
Choose the adapter together with the hose: the hose-side end depends on the hose, so include the hose specification in your enquiry, or quote it together with the PFA-lined hoses on this site. For the downstream parts on a Tri-Clamp line, see the PFA-lined Tri-Clamp fittings.
Operation & change-out
The adapter is one of the most heavily loaded points on a hose assembly. Do not twist the hose during installation and avoid sharp bends close to the adapter; let brackets carry the weight and movement of the hose rather than leaving it hanging from the adapter. Check the gasket at the Tri-Clamp or flange end every time it is opened, and replace it if it is indented or scratched.
